BC Emergency Health Services

Government Healthcare FDM Rapid Turnaround

The Problem

BC Emergency Health Services was preparing a province-wide tabletop training exercise and needed a full scale-model fleet to run it: ambulances, a rapid-response SUV, a light-response van, a helicopter, a city bus, and a set of landing-zone tiles. Off-the-shelf models were too fragile, inconsistent in finish, and prone to warping when stored in warm response vehicles. The team needed pieces that looked like the real BCEHS fleet, stood up to repeated handling, and could be produced on a short timeline.

Our Solution

BCEHS came to the project with strong in-house CAD work and a clear picture of the fleet they wanted on the table. Morin 3D's job was to turn those files into durable, consistent physical models — and to bring the print-side expertise that keeps a mixed-part kit like this looking sharp across every piece. We advised on material, print strategy, and how each piece should come off the bed, then produced the full fleet in matching livery on a tight timeline.

  • Material guidance for real-world use. We recommended a tougher, heat-stable plastic over the more common brittle display-model materials so the fleet holds its shape even when stored in a warm response vehicle between sessions.
  • Print-strategy input, piece by piece. Orientation, support placement, and where parts needed to be solid were worked through alongside the BCEHS team so every model came off the bed clean, strong, and free of visible support marks.
  • A helicopter with a spinning rotor. The aircraft was printed in two parts with a captive post so the blades spin freely on the body — a small touch that makes the scenario feel tangible at the table.
  • Consistent finish across a varied kit. Ambulances, response vehicles, a bus, a helicopter, and landing-zone tiles were produced in matching colour and livery so the set reads as one coherent fleet at a glance.
  • Delivered fast, in two runs. The full mixed-part fleet shipped in two batches inside a few short weeks, with every piece arriving exercise-ready.

The Results

The full fleet was delivered in two shipments across a handful of weeks, with every piece arriving in exercise-ready condition. BCEHS now has a durable, consistent training kit they can pull off the shelf whenever a scenario needs to be walked through — and the complete set of print-ready files is on hand for any future reorder or expansion.
