During the concrete pour for the University of Victoria's engineering-building expansion, Bird Construction had to safeguard hundreds of threaded leveling rods that would later support critical machinery. If concrete or debris contaminated the threads, crews faced labor-intensive cleanup, project delays, and higher costs. An economical, fast, and easily removable protective solution was essential.
Morin 3D worked on site with Bird Construction to capture exact rod dimensions and understand pour-sequence workflow. Using rapid prototyping, the team designed custom caps that snapped on with one hand and popped off just as easily. After field tests confirmed fit and ergonomics, Morin 3D produced the caps in high volume at a cost low enough to cover the entire job site.
Every threaded rod stayed clean and ready for final leveling, and the cap installation-removal cycle added virtually no time to the pour schedule. By eliminating the risk of contamination and rework, Morin 3D helped Bird Construction keep the expansion on budget and on timetable, proving the value of rapid, targeted problem-solving at construction scale.
